We live in a world and are constantly bossed around by a society that tells us exactly how we should act, how we should speak, what we should look like, what we should wear, what we should do for a living and the kind of person we should marry. It’s so easy to listen to society’s voice because it’s everywhere we turn. When you think out of the norm or attempt to do something out of the norm, society immediately comes at you and says, “I don’t think so”, “that will never work”, or “just do what everybody else is doing”. But what does society really know? Jesus isn’t telling us all those things, so why do we listen? Jesus loves us. He loves the way we look (I mean He made us to look like we do), He loves our passions, He loves our weirdness, He loves the traits that make us different and He loves when we’re not of the world. He loves us exactly the way we are, flaws and all. I don’t know about you, but listening to Jesus who never judges over listening to society who will judge every move you make, it just makes sense who we should be listening to. Drown out that wordly voice bringing you down, making you second guess yourself and trust Jesus. He’s got you.
I know it’s easier said than done when it comes to not caring what other people think. Just like everything, it takes practice. Start stepping out into the world you want for yourself one baby step at a time. That first step is always the hardest but always the most freeing. Start saying ‘no’ to the things that don’t matter and to the things that cause your life more stress, and start saying ‘yes’ to the things that make you come alive and make you feel closer to God. You’ll start to feel your confidence rise as you get used to going after what YOU want and as you start telling others about your new journey. Most people don’t enjoy stepping out of their comfort zones (myself included), but that’s where all life’s greatest adventures and failures happen. Step away from the ‘busyness’ and listen to what God wants for your life. You’ll only hear him if you’re not listening to the world.
“Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world” Romans 12:2
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the holy spirit” Romans 15:13
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you” Isaiah 43:2
Stepping out of the “world” and to Jesus is scary and people will judge, but just know you’re never alone. & hey, you have me too 🙂
